North Canton City Schools Board of Education approves hiring of

Tim Walker as new superintendent

Walker named successor to Jeff Wendorf; will step into new position effective July 1, 2025

North Canton, Ohio (April 16, 2025) – At its monthly meeting held this morning, the North Canton City Schools Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of Tim Walker as the district’s new superintendent effective July 1, 2025.

Walker, who has worked in the district since 2016, was hired following current superintendent Jeff Wendorf’s retirement announcement last week. Wendorf will continue in his current role until the end of June. The Board of Education worked in partnership with the Stark County Educational Service Center, including counsel from Superintendent Joe Chaddock. With strong internal candidates expressing interest in the role, the Board of Education conducted extensive interviews prior to the vote this morning.

“Tim has consistently demonstrated unwavering dedication to our district and a deep commitment to the success and well-being of our students, educators, and families. His leadership, vision, and connection to the community make him uniquely qualified to guide our schools forward. We are confident that under Tim’s leadership, our district will continue to grow, thrive, and uphold the values that matter most to our community,” said Jessica Stroia, President of the Board of Education. “We look forward to working in partnership with Tim to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.”

Since the beginning of 2024, Walker has served as treasurer of North Canton City Schools, managing the district’s $56 million operating budget, financial forecasts, and all contracts, serving on the negotiation team. He also had a lead role in tax incentive agreements and economic development. From 2021-2024, Walker was the director of development and special projects, overseeing North Canton’s $60 million construction project, as well as the funding and constriction of the $13-million dollar upgrade to athletic facilities. Walker was the point person for external parties, including North Canton City leadership, architects, and construction leaders, ensuring collaboration and efficiency on all of the district-led projects.

"I am humbled and honored to serve as the next superintendent for North Canton City Schools,” Walker said. “North Canton has been such a special community for our family, and NCCS has positively impacted each of us. The last nine years have been a great period of growth for our school district under the direction of Jeff Wendorf, and I cannot thank him enough for his leadership and mentorship. North Canton City Schools is in a great position to continue impacting the next generation. I look forward to working with our dedicated Board, outstanding staff, and supportive community to continue moving the district forward."

Prior to his role focused on development and special projects, Walker was the district’s athletic director from 2016 to 2021. He supervised all 25 varsity sports and their respective coaches, including the hiring and evaluation of all team leaders. Walker established a department-wide corporate partnership program, connecting the community to Hoover athletics in a holistic plan. He orchestrated the master plan for the district’s athletic facilities and took the initial steps in launching the capital campaign.

Prior to coming to North Canton City Schools, Walker was a field clinical representative with Boston Scientific for one year, educating physicians and clinicians on company-specific devices. He was the head men’s basketball coach at Malone University from 2009-2015 while also serving as an instructor for College Experience and in the health and human performance department. He led the team through the transition from NAIA to NCAA II, set up an annual corporate sponsor program, and raised approximately $30,000 annually for the program.

Walker began his career in higher education at Trinity Christian College from 2002-2009. While serving as the head men’s basketball coach at the school, he held various other academic and administrative roles. During his time as department chair of the physical education department, he guided the rewriting of the department’s curriculum and assisted with academic advising. Under his leadership on the court, Trinity Christian College qualified twice for the NAIA National Tournament and recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons–both firsts in school history.

Walker earned his bachelor’s degree in 1999 from Cedarville University, followed by his Master of Sports Science from the United States Sports Academy in 2001. He has his State of Ohio School Treasurer License and is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration at the University of Akron. Walker and his wife, Alison, have four children, all who attend or graduated from North Canton.
