Hoover High School Career Tech Awarded $2.5M for Engineering Program

North Canton, OH - Hoover High School was awarded a $2.5 million Career Technical Education Equipment Grant from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce for upgrading the facilities and equipment for their Career Tech Engineering program. The grant program funds are intended to help schools purchase up-to-date equipment to better prepare students to be career-ready upon graduation. 

The facilities and equipment will be upgraded to add additional industrial robotic arms to our FANUC certification, as well as HAAS CNC machining and OSHA safety certifications says Hoover Career Tech Engineering teacher Todd Alkire. “We will be able to provide multiple industry-recognized credentials that allow students to demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to succeed in a specific occupation or industry straight from high school.”

Other Hoover Career Tech programs including Business Management, Interactive Media, and Teaching Professions will benefit from the Engineering facilities upgrade as well through improved collaboration spaces, cross-program projects, and fabrication equipment access. Renovations to facilities and acquisition of new equipment should be complete in 2025.

“North Canton City Schools is fortunate to have educators striving to prepare their students for tomorrow and state leaders who work to provide the funding necessary through opportunities like the Career Technical Education Equipment Grant Program,” explains Superintendent Jeff Wendorf. “Up-to-date facilities and equipment help us fulfill our district mission to ignite a passion for learning.”

Hoover High School was one of 56 schools to receive grants totaling more than $67.7 million, expanding career technical education access to an additional 10,345 Ohio students.

Hoover High School Career Tech received a $3.85 million grant from Future Forward Ohio and the Ohio Department of Education in November 2023 to add a Welding program starting with the 2025-2026 school year.
